What happens when I edit a rule set?
Quick answer
Saving an edit creates a new version of the rule set and makes it current. New accounts created from then on use the new version. Every existing account keeps the version it was created under, so its rules never change. Old versions are kept, never overwritten.
Detailed answer
Versioning is how PropExecutor lets you improve your rules without breaking promises to traders already trading.
Step by step
- You edit the rule set in the builder.
- Saving inserts a new version with a new number.
- The new version becomes current.
- Account types pointing at the rule set use the new version for accounts created from now on.
- Existing accounts are untouched.
Why versions are immutable
Once saved, a version's numbers and rules cannot be edited, even by the database's own administrators, because a database rule refuses it. An account's rules are therefore exactly what they were when it was sold.
What this means operationally
- Inventory: unassigned accounts created before the edit keep the old version.
- Disputes: you can always show which version applied.
- Communication: announce changes as applying to purchases from a date.
Worked example
On 1 March you change the daily loss limit from 5% to 4%. A trader who bought on 28 February keeps 5% for the life of that account. A trader who buys on 2 March gets 4%.
