Can I limit trading to certain hours?
Quick answer
Yes, on Basic and Growth. The trading hours window rule accepts orders only between two UTC times, for example 07:00 to 20:00, and refuses (or flags) orders outside it. Windows that end before they start wrap past midnight, so overnight sessions are supported.
Detailed answer
Trading hour limits suit session-based programmes and avoiding illiquid periods.
How it works
- Set a start and end time in UTC.
- Orders inside the window are accepted.
- Orders outside are refused by default, or flagged.
Examples
- London and New York only: 07:00 to 20:00 UTC.
- Avoid the rollover: a window that excludes the minutes around the daily rollover.
- Asian session programme: 23:00 to 08:00 UTC, which wraps past midnight.
What it does not do
It limits new orders. It does not close positions held outside the window. To stop positions being held over the weekend, use the no weekend holding rule.
Communicating it
State the window in UTC with conversions for your main markets on the rules page.
Daylight saving
UTC does not change with daylight saving, so a window fixed in UTC shifts by an hour in local time for traders in Europe and the US twice a year. Mention this, or traders will notice the session appearing to move.
Testing
Place a test order just outside the window on a trial account to confirm the refusal message is clear before you sell the product.
