Are rules checked on every price tick?

Quick answer

Yes. Every rule that depends on equity, such as the daily loss limit, maximum loss limit, trailing drawdown, weekend holding and custom equity rules, is evaluated on each price tick in the order ticks arrive. Order-level rules are checked when an order is placed, modified or triggered.

Detailed answer

PropExecutor uses two kinds of checks, matched to how each rule works.

Tick-time rules

Evaluated on each new price for the accounts it affects:

  • Daily loss limit.
  • Maximum loss limit.
  • Trailing drawdown.
  • No weekend holding (positions past the Friday cutoff).
  • Custom rules on equity metrics.

Order-time rules

Evaluated before an order is accepted:

  • Allowed instruments.
  • Maximum lot per order and total open lots.
  • Maximum open positions.
  • Maximum effective leverage and leverage by asset class.
  • Maximum risk per trade and mandatory stop loss.
  • Trading hours, no hedging and maximum orders per day.

Event-time rules

  • Pass conditions: checked when trades close and on ticks.
  • Minimum hold time: judged on closed trades.

The one clock-driven rule

The inactivity rule cannot be triggered by a price, because it fires on the absence of trading. It is checked by an hourly sweep, the only scheduled rule in the engine.

Why the split matters

Order-time rules prevent a violation before it happens, while tick-time rules catch the market moving an account through a limit. Together they cover both what the trader does and what the market does.
