Can traders use expert advisors or bots on a prop firm platform?

Quick answer

It depends on the platform and the firm's rules. MetaTrader supports expert advisors natively; many other platforms do not, or offer API trading instead. Firms that allow automation usually prohibit specific strategies such as latency arbitrage or high-frequency scalping, and some ban third-party bots entirely.

Detailed answer

Points for a firm to decide:

  • Platform capability: does it support scripts, EAs or API trading?
  • Policy: allowed, allowed with restrictions, or banned.
  • Prohibited strategies: arbitrage, tick scalping, copying the same bot across many accounts.
  • Detection: how you would recognise automated abuse.

PropExecutor's terminal does not run expert advisors or scripts, and placing orders through the public API is planned rather than live. Traders trade manually in the browser or Android app. Rules such as minimum hold time and maximum orders per day are available if you want to discourage high-frequency patterns.

Communicate the policy

Put the automation policy on the rules page and in the FAQ, so traders who depend on bots know before they buy.

Detecting automation

Even where automation is not supported in the terminal, watch for patterns such as identical order timing across accounts or many orders within seconds, which can indicate external tools or shared strategies.
