Are gold, silver, oil and stock indices available?
Quick answer
Yes. The default feed includes gold, silver and palladium, WTI and Brent crude oil, natural gas, and twelve stock indices: US30, US500, USTEC, UK100, GER40, FRA40, ESP35, NETH25, SWI20, EU50, JP225 and AUS200. Each uses its real contract size and, where needed, currency conversion.
Detailed answer
These are among the most traded instruments in prop challenges, especially gold and the US indices.
Metals
- Gold (XAU/USD): 100 ounces per lot.
- Silver (XAG/USD): 5,000 ounces per lot.
- Palladium (XPD/USD).
Energy
- WTI and Brent crude: 100 barrels per lot.
- Natural gas.
Indices
Priced per point per contract. European indices such as GER40 are quoted in euros, JP225 in yen and AUS200 in Australian dollars; profit and loss is converted into the account currency at live rates.
Why contract size matters
A one-lot gold position moves $100 for each $1 change in price, much more than many forex traders expect. Publishing contract sizes in your rules, and using risk-based rules such as maximum risk per trade, prevents surprises.
Leverage controls
The leverage by asset class rule sets separate caps for metals, indices and energy, with defaults of 1:20 for metals and indices and 1:10 for energy, adjustable per rule set.
