Can I create trading accounts through the API?
Quick answer
Not yet. Account creation over the API is documented as planned. Today, accounts are created in the admin panel, in bulk of up to 100 per request, and your systems assign them to traders over the API. Pre-creating inventory this way gives instant delivery without API creation.
Detailed answer
The current pattern works well for most firms.
Today's pattern
- Create accounts in bulk in the admin panel for each size you sell.
- Keep track of unassigned account numbers.
- Assign them to buyers with
PUT /v1/accounts/{number}/trader.
Why inventory works
- Delivery is instant: the account already exists when the sale arrives.
- Credits are used at creation, which you control.
- Rule versions are fixed at creation, so inventory accounts behave predictably.
Managing inventory
- Watch the count of unassigned accounts per size.
- Top up before promotions.
- If you change a rule set, decide whether to use up old inventory or create new accounts on the new version.
When API creation arrives
It will use the accounts:write scope and debit a credit per account, like the panel. Your assignment logic will keep working unchanged. The availability page in the docs will show the endpoint as available when it ships.
