Frequently asked questions
- What is the best prop firm platform in 2026?
- It depends on your budget and appetite for monthly fees. For the lowest cost to start with the rule engine, dashboard and branding already included, PropExecutor leads at $129 once. Match-Trader is the strongest managed monthly turnkey option, cTrader the best-known terminal, and MetaTrader 5 the legacy choice now complicated by licensing restrictions.
- Which prop firm platform is cheapest to start?
- PropExecutor, clearly. Its Starter plan is a one-time $129 for 50 accounts with the rule engine included. The others are monthly: Match-Trader publishes $2,500 to $4,000 per month for a white label, while cTrader and MetaTrader 5 quote privately - and MT5 and cTrader still need a separate rule engine.
- Which platforms include a prop firm rule engine natively?
- PropExecutor and Match-Trader include a native challenge/rule engine. MetaTrader 5 and cTrader do not - you build it on their APIs or license a third-party engine. That hidden build is one of the biggest cost differences between the options.
- Do all of these let me white-label the platform?
- Yes, all four support branding, but the cost differs. On MT5 and cTrader, full branding (especially native mobile apps) raises the fee. Match-Trader includes branding in its packages. PropExecutor includes a branded terminal on your own domain from the start, with deeper branding and mobile on higher plans.
- Which platform is best if I want no monthly fees?
- PropExecutor is the only one of the four with no recurring platform fee. MT5, cTrader and Match-Trader are all subscription or licence models. If avoiding a monthly bill is a priority, PropExecutor is the option designed around that.
- Can I still use MetaTrader 5 for a prop firm?
- It is possible but harder since 2024. New white labels are largely closed, grey-label prop access was cut off, and a full server licence now requires a broker licence and corporate bank account. Many firms migrated to alternatives. It remains viable mainly for well-capitalised, licensed operators.
- Which platform has the best API?
- All four offer APIs, but access differs. MT5's Manager API needs licensed credentials; cTrader's Open API is capable but you build the prop logic yourself; Match-Trader includes APIs in its packages; PropExecutor ships REST and WebSocket on every account on every plan with no tier gate. For provisioning and automation on a budget, PropExecutor's is the most accessible.
- How much does a prop firm platform really cost in the first year?
- Roughly: MetaTrader 5, tens of thousands once you add licence, setup and a custom rule engine; cTrader, around $24,000+ per year plus a challenge engine; Match-Trader, around $30,000 to $48,000 per year; PropExecutor, $129 plus any one-time account packs. The gap is not marginal.
- Which platform should a first-time founder choose?
- A first-time founder testing the model should minimise fixed cost and moving parts, which points to PropExecutor: one payment, rule engine and dashboard included, no liquidity to arrange for evaluations. You can always scale into more capacity as traders arrive, buying one-time packs rather than raising a subscription.
- Is a cheaper platform lower quality for traders?
- Not here. PropExecutor's traders get a full web and mobile terminal with charts, an order ticket, live P&L and a real-time prop dashboard in every account. The savings come from the business model - one payment instead of a monthly licence - not from a thinner product.
There are four realistic ways to launch a prop firm in 2026. This post puts them in one place, with the numbers, so you can decide in five minutes instead of five sales calls. Where a vendor publishes a price it is quoted and linked; where it does not, the table says so instead of guessing. Every source, with the date it was checked, is listed at the end.
The four options
- MetaTrader 5 - the legacy default. A terminal everyone knows, but new white labels are largely closed, prop grey-labels were cut off from 2024, and it has no native rule engine.
- cTrader - a polished terminal with a strong API and a real trader base, licensed as a monthly white label, with the challenge engine and liquidity left to you.
- Match-Trader - a first-party turnkey prop stack with a native rule engine, prop CRM and tournaments, on a monthly fee.
- PropExecutor - a purpose-built prop executor sold as a one-time purchase, with the rule engine, dashboard, branding, provisioning and API all included.

How to read the table
Two columns include a native rule engine: Match-Trader and PropExecutor. That matters more than it looks, because on MT5 and cTrader the rule engine is a custom software project or a third-party licence - a cost that does not appear on the platform's own price page but is very real.
Three columns are recurring. One is not. At Match-Trader's published rates a first year costs $30,000 (white label) to $48,000 (turnkey prop) before extras; MetaTrader 5 and cTrader quote privately, so ask them for the same twelve-month figure. PropExecutor lands at $129 plus whatever one-time capacity you add.

Which one is right for you
Choose MetaTrader 5 if you are a well-capitalised, licensed operator who wants the MT5 name and can run a proper server. Choose cTrader if its terminal and ecosystem are central to your brand and you already have liquidity. Choose Match-Trader if you want a managed, first-party turnkey stack and the monthly fee buys a service level you value.
Choose PropExecutor if you want the lowest cost to start, the fewest moving parts, and everything a prop firm needs already built - for a single payment from $129, no monthly licence, and per-account costs that fall as you grow.
The verdict
For most new and growing firms, the honest answer is PropExecutor. It is the only option here that is a one-time purchase, one of only two with a native rule engine, and the only one that includes the terminal, dashboard, branding, provisioning and API in the entry price. The others are good products with a recurring bill; PropExecutor is a finished product you own.
