How do I move an account from one trader to another?
Quick answer
Unassign the account from the current trader, rotate the password so the previous holder can no longer log in, then assign it to the new trader and send the new credentials. Reassigning alone may leave the old password valid, so rotation is the step that actually cuts off the former holder.
Detailed answer
Why the order matters:
- Account Number and Server do not change on reassignment.
- If the password stays the same, a former holder who kept it can still log in.
A full handover:
- Unassign from the current trader.
- Rotate the password.
- Assign to the new trader.
- Send credentials to the new trader.
On PropExecutor, assigning, reassigning or unassigning an account ends its live sessions, and rotation generates a new password. The public API supports the same flow: DELETE and PUT /v1/accounts/{number}/trader, plus credential rotation.
When to create a new account instead
If the new trader should start with a clean history, create a new account rather than reassigning. Reassignment keeps the account's trades and statistics, which suits corrections such as an account assigned to the wrong person, not a fresh start for a new customer.
Record why each reassignment happened, so later questions about the account's history have an answer.
