What is an evaluation (challenge) account?
Quick answer
An evaluation or challenge account is a trading account a trader pays for to prove their skill under fixed rules. It usually has a starting balance, a profit target, a daily loss limit, a maximum loss limit and sometimes minimum trading days. Passing it leads to a funded account.
Detailed answer
Evaluation accounts look like normal trading accounts but are judged against rules. The common rule set:
- Profit target: for example 8% or 10% of the starting balance.
- Daily loss limit: a maximum loss in a single day, for example 5%.
- Maximum loss limit: an overall loss floor, for example 10% below the starting balance.
- Minimum trading days: the trader must trade on a number of distinct days.
Breaking a loss rule ends the account immediately. Meeting the target with all rules respected passes it. The quality of enforcement matters: if limits are checked late, traders can lose beyond them, and if they are checked inconsistently, traders dispute results. PropExecutor checks each account's rules on every price tick as it arrives, and shows the trader live headroom against each limit inside the terminal.
Example
A $25,000 evaluation with an 8% target, a 5% daily limit and a 10% maximum loss: the trader passes at $27,000 equity, provided equity never falls 5% below a day's opening value and never reaches $22,500.
