Should a prop firm offer a free retry?

Quick answer

A free retry gives a trader a new attempt, often if the account ended in profit but did not hit the target within a time limit. It is a goodwill feature that improves reviews. It costs you a new account and another chance to pass, so restrict it to clearly defined cases.

Detailed answer

Common versions:

  • Time-limit retry: the trader was in profit when time ran out.
  • No-breach retry: the trader did not break a rule but did not reach the target.
  • Promotional retry: offered during campaigns.

Free retries are almost never offered after a rule breach, because that would remove the meaning of the rule.

Each retry is a new trading account, which is also how it should be recorded for clarity. On PropExecutor you create the retry as a fresh account on the same account type, assign it to the same trader record and send new credentials. The trader's same-email account switcher in the terminal will then show both accounts under one login flow.

Define it precisely

State exactly when a retry is granted, for example "account in profit, no rule broken, time limit reached", and apply it the same way for every trader. Ad-hoc retries granted only to those who complain create resentment among those who did not.

Limit it

One free retry per purchase keeps the cost predictable.
